Hi:
I think I posted this in the wrong group previously, I
hope this is the right one...
I would like to be able to use the transferdatabase action
to copy queries or tables from one Access database to
another. I do this routinely within my network by using
drive paths or UNC paths to find the source db, but I now
need to transfer tables/queries from a db that resides
(far away) on a server outside of our network. Would I
use IP address, ODBC, something else to locate the db? I
typically use a macro to execute the transferdatabase
command so I guess I'm looking for what would go on
the "Database Name" line. Thanks for any help,
-Rick

Hi Rick,

As far as I know you can't do this unless both drives are on the same
network (including a VPN) so you can use a UNC path. Even then it's very
risky, because Jet is vulnerable to connection problems on the WAN or
VPN (lost or delayed packets etc.) Instead, use TransferDatabase to
create an intermediate mdb on the local drive or LAN that contains the
objects you want to export to the remote mdb. Then move the intermediate
mdb to the other machine (email, ftp or whatever) and use
TransferDatabase again.
