I have my present WinXP Home tweaked just as I want it.

Existing computer is experiencing problems and will purchase a new computer
very soon.

Will there be problems with Microsoft when I, 'format', the new hard drive
and 'copy' my
existing WinXP onto the new machines HD?

Many thanks to all who might reply.

If you have a retail version of Windows XP, you can uninstall it from your
old computer and install it on your new computer provided you have any
qualifying media needed for an upgrade version. If your Windows XP is an OEM
version, than it is tied to the original computer on which it was installed.

IMO, your problem is not Microsoft but copying or imaging your the hard
drive from your old computer onto the hard drive of your new computer. Your
old Windows registry and drivers are unlikely to be compatible with your new
computer.

OUCH.

I have WinXP on CD using Drive Image and thought that would do just fine.

Thanks for the reply

Yes, there is a problem. XP Home came installed on my computer and I used file transfer wizard and Ghost and still couldn't get it to boot on the new drive. That's why I'm here looking around.
