Tammy

I created an Access DB to import data with a report to
rearrange the data. This is then transferred to an Excel
file. Everything was working fine, and is still working
fine for me,the problem is that some people at my place of
employment have a newer version of Excel. I am not sure
if the different versions of excel is the problem or not,
but once someone who has the newer version opens the Excel
file, no one can use the tranfer spreadsheet funcion
anymore. The message "External table is not in the
expected format." This is starting to be a huge problem
for me as more and more people are starting to use this
Excel file. I have reprogrammed all links, exports and
imports. I even went as far as recreating the DB with the
same results. I am not an Access wizard, just the basics
but any help would be a huge help. Thanks for any help
you can give.

Hi Tammy,

Please can we have some more information about what you're trying to
achieve and what's happening. In particular,

1) What versions of Access and Excel are the various computers using?

2) It sounds as if you are exporting an Access report to an Excel
workbook, and that works fine. But then when someone with a newer
version of Excel "opens the file" something happens to it. Do they just
open the file, or do they open it and work on it, or open it and save it
in a newer format, or what?

3)When you say "no one can use the transfer spreadsheet function
anymore", what are they attempting to use Transferspreadsheet for? Is
this an attempt to export more data to the original Excel file, or to
import data back from the modified Excel file, or what? Are they using
TransferSpreadsheet to link data or to export or import it?

I am not sure what version I have, the plant is being upgraded, the upgrades are 200

All they have to do is open the file.

I need to keep this file updated weekly with the data. When it has been opened, I can no longer export the data. The Access DB works fine until the transfer. Thats when the message pops up. If I delete that file and create a "fresh" file, the transfer works
