Hi there

My husband bought a new laptop, and his old one we gave as a gift to my
brother that lives in another country. How can we transfer the ownership of
the old laptop to my brother's?
Windows XP home E. and all the other programs installed are registered in my
husband's name, logon screen etc.

Your help is going to be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Lisa

Type eula.txt in Start Run and it will tell you how to do it. Basically you give them all materials. There are no technical steps.

Thanks David
I forwarded your message to my brother. I hope it helps him/ Have a nice
day.

As long as you transfer the laptop and the actual CD's for all software
installed then you are fine. However to change the registered user name that
appears can be tricky with some software. It would be in your husband's and
your brother's best interests to do a reinstall of the software so that your
husband's name is removed from all registry settings and your brother can
use his name (or whatever he chooses). The laptop should have come with a
Recovery CD or some process for taking it back to it's original state at the
time of purchase. Run that. Your brother should then reinstall any other
programs from their respective CDs that go with the gift.

Thank you Harry for your help. Yesterday I called Microsoft and asked them
if it was possible to remove my husbands name from windows xp, and they
directed me to the following article.

Yes that will do it for the most part however some programs might still make
reference to your husband's name. An alternative to hacking the registry is
to use Doug Knox's little gem found here
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_change_owner.htm
