Long story short. I tried to install my old hard drive
into a new computer. On first boot windows(xp) said i
need to reactivate as there was new hardware detected. I
selected the YES option. Windows froze. I rebooted and
now i get a hard disk failure. (Windows not recognizing
my HD) Looking for options on how to handle this. I have
very important files on old HD. Help! Thanks

Moving a hard drive with WinXP to a new computer with all new devices
usually doesn't work to well.
XP is looking for all the Old Device Drivers. If you want to save your
files best bet is to get another
version of XP install it and then hook up the old drive as slave or
Master on the Secondary IDE channel.

Greetings --

Normally, and assuming a retail license (many OEM licenses are not
transferable to a new motherboard), unless your motherboard is
virtually identical (same chipset, same IDE controllers, same BIOS
version, etc.) to the one on which the other WinXP installation was
originally performed, you'll need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place
upgrade) installation, at the very least:

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.

This will also require re-activation, unless you have a Volume
Licensed version of WinXP Pro installed. If it's been more than 120
days since you last activated that specific Product Key, you'll most
likely be able to activate via the internet without problem. If it's
been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone call.

How do I get the BIOS to recognize a new HDD? I have two EZ Machines computers with identical Samsung SV0432A HHD. I want to take one out of Machine A, make it a slave, and move it to Machine B. Both HDD have Windows XP installed. I set the jumpers per Samsung's website, but I suspect the the BIOS isn't recognizing the slave

I don't know what BIOS version is being used; how would I find that out?
Thanks,
