transfer of files

I would like to format my computer hard disc and
therefore need to back up all the addresses and the mails
in OUTLOOK EXPRESS and MICROSOFT OUTLOOK. Would someone
help with step by step instructions on how to do it?

You can find a bunch of MSKB articles that deal with this in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base (http://support.microsoft.com/search). I
recommend that you scan the MSKB on your own to find the info you
need.
