I would like to know how to transfer music from audio
cassette tapes to CDs. If this is possible, what is
involved??? Equipment?? Procedures??
I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Thanks,
Keith

This should be fairly easy.

all you need, aside from a cassette player, is a cable
that connects to the "Line Out" or "Headphone" jack on
your cassette player, and at the other end connects to
your "Line in" or "Microphone" jack on your sound card
(preferably to the "Line in" jack), and any software that
can do sound recording. there is one that comes with W2K,
called "sound recorder" (you'll find it under Start-
Programs-Accessories-Entertainment), but there's a catch -
it records in chunks of 60 seconds and not continuously
(last I checked, but you can check it out yourself too).
what you can do is search and d/l of the internet freeware
that will allow you to do sound recornding.
next, you have to make sure that on your sound properties,
the input you are selecting to record from (i.e. the "Line
in" or "Microphone") is selected and not mute. for that
you can double click on that small yellow speaker icon on
your system tray, than "options" from the top menu,
then "Properties", select the button for "Recording", make
sure that your desired input is selected, and t hen press
OK. you should see a volume button for your desired input.
make sure it is selected at the bottom as well.

now all you need to do is to start yoru recording
software, play your casseette and record to the format
desired.

hope that helped

oh, and forgot to mention, once you have the sound-bite on
your computer, as wave file or mp3, you can use any
burning software to burn it to a CD...

This is very simple using an inexpensive piece of software
published by Magix. It costs around 20GBP (30USD).

One copies the tape to your HDD then downloads to CDR.

The original recording to the PC is in real-time but the
subsequent download takes about 20 minutes for an 80
minute CD. Not very fast but VERY effective. I have
transferred lots of tapes to CD this way for use in the
car.
