Most applications that run on Windows 98 are compatible with XP. BUT, you
would be wise to run the compatibility checker offered by Microsoft. Some
givens are:
Uninstall any anti-virus software you have installed. Don't just turn it
off. Uninstall it.
Unplug from the computer any USB devices, printers, UPS power backups,
etc....
Run a complete defragmentation of the hard drive.
Basically, have the computer in a "naked" state. This will remove allot of
unnecessary problems during installation. After installation plug in one
device at a time. If required, download the XP version of drivers for
peripheral devices. XP will probably have a driver for each device. Maybe
not the current, but something to make it work. But, you really should
download the latest driver from the device manufacturer. They're always
correcting little bugs/compatibility problems in there drivers.
