Not sure if this should be posted in FrontPage or Vista.

Is there a way to transfer my registered FP2003 (11.6552.8107) SP2 from my
old XP computer, which is dying, to its replacement running Vista 64-bit?
The File > Export button is grayed out.

I have the FP2003 Upgrade disk, but can't find my original FP98 disk from 10
years ago. Besides, I'm sure it was on a floppy, and my new computer has no
way of reading a floppy. The upgrade will not install on the new computer
without a previous version.

I have websites out there, and I need Frontpage. I have Expression Web
sitting here, but it kept crashing old computer, so I haven't learned how to
use it yet. Please, I desperately need my FrontPage right now.

Thank you for your time.
Gail

Without the FP98 disc, or any other version of FrontPage previous to FP2003,
you cannot install the upgrade version of FrontPage 2003. *My* copy of FP98
came on a CD, but that does not mean there wasn't a floppy disc version
(probably a 10-15 disc set)

Expression Web 1 and 2 are similar to FrontPage (version 3 has a big user
interface difference) - but it does have differences, the most noticeable
are the lack of navigation view and lack of support for webbots. You will
need to learn HTML and CSS to get the best out of it.

There was a floppy version of FP 95. 98 was on disks.

Look on your old computer for FrontPage files. The old exe file may
still be there. If it is, copy it to your new computer into the
install directory. The upgrade disk may find this and allow you to
install. If not, it should give you an opportunity to navigate to it
instead. This may get you going.

Good luck.

Thank you for your response. I didn't mean this to be a discussion about
whether or not FP98 came on a floppy or a disk. That was not the point, as I
can't locate the original, regardless. I just wanted to know if there was a
way to transfer my registered installation from one computer to another.

Perhaps I should have worded my question differently. Which files,
specifically, do I need to copy over to my new computer, exe, dll, etc.?
Where do I find them, besides my FP program folder, and what's needed for my
Vista registry?

You're telling me that I can't transfer this program from one computer to
another? There's no way to do this?

It seems to me that I shouldn't have to buy another full version of FP on
eBay or somewhere just to install it on the new computer when I have a
registered version sitting here on my old computer.

You're going to need a qualifying version.

I forgot there was a FrontPage95. I've been using this program forever,
upgrading it multiple times, so I no doubt started with FP95. No wonder I
couldn't find the original. Those old floppys got tossed when my last
computer that could read them died.

I'll see if I can find my old Gateway system installation disks. MSOffice
must be on one of them. Perhaps there's an older version of FP on it, or
something that would satisfy the upgrade disk.

Here are qualifying products:

- Microsoft FrontPage: FrontPage version 2002, FrontPage 2000, FrontPage
98, FrontPage 97
- Microsoft Office XP: Office XP Developer, Office XP Professional with
FrontPage, Office XP Professional Special Edition
- Microsoft Office 2000: Office 2000 Developer, Office 2000 Premium

I am about to do the same thing except I am moving from XP to XP not Vista on
a new laptop. I have not had previous problems moving my FP program files
straight over from one laptop to another and did not need to run any upgrade
discs as the upgraded version is what I transferred over. I just copied the
program files totally onto a portable hard drive and then uploaded them to
the new laptop. Like you I no longer can find my original discs - not even
sure I can find the upgrade one anymore.
I hope it will work again this time as I don't want to start with new web
software.

Pat

Thank you all for your assistance. I found my Office 2002 (full version)
disk. My FP2003 upgrade disk was accepted, and installed a full version FP on
my Vista 64-bit computer.

Please, tell me the difference between FP versions (11.5516.5606) and SP2
(11.6632.8107), which is the version on my old computer. If I need to update
the new install, please give me the link to the update, as I can't locate it
on office.microsoft.com, which is where the update link in Frontpage takes
me. There are no downloads available on the Downloads for Office 2003 >
Frontpage 2003 page, as I gather "Office Update" has been roled into
Microsoft Update. I know this is going backwards, but I have no choice right
now.

I'm really hoping all this doesn't affect my Office 2007 installation.

* Seperate Question: My system keeps prompting me to accept Microsoft
Update. Why are there two seperate 'update programs', Windows Update and
Micosoft Update? What's the difference between the two? Why do I need both?

Thank you,
Gail

FrontPage is no longer supported by Microsoft, so it is not surprising that
there are no pages and no updates available.

"Windows Update" updates Windows. "Microsoft Update" updates both Windows
and Microsoft Office programs. You only need Microsoft Update.

The version difference is: 11.5516 is the original FrontPage 2003. 11.6632
is FrontPage 2003 updated with security fixes and bug fixes from SP1 and
SP2. These are no longer available.

FrontPage was replaced over 2 years ago by Expression Web, now at version 3.
A trial for Expression Web is available from http://expression.microsoft.com

Your Office 2007 installation will not be affected, unless you do not accept
Microsoft Update which provides security and bug fixes for Office 2007.

Thank you, Ron. I'll click the accept button for Microsoft Update.

I have Expression Web, but my old system was not equipped to handle it, as
it kept crashing. I will migrate to Expression as I'm comfortable with it,
but I have to maintain my websites in the meantime.

I just found the exe file Office2003SP2-KB887616-(either FullFile or
Client)-ENU available for download here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=57e27a97-2db6-4654-9db6-ec7d5b4dd867

I realize that Frontpage is no longer supported by Microsoft, but isn't the
FrontPage 2003 SP2 update included in the Office 2003 SP2 update?

I can't imagine Microsoft would simply remove these updates from existence.
"Support" is one thing, removing the availability of prior security and bug
fixes for an older program is quite something else.

The following is my opinion only:

There are people who'll find learning Expression Web just too time consuming
simply to maintain a basic, no frills website. I know Microsoft is in the
business of selling software, but there's a learning curve with Expression,
and many people just aren't interested. Would Microsoft pull the rug out
from under all these people just to make a buck? I doubt that was Bill Gates'
intention.

Thank you Ron, Tom, and others who are here to help those of us who still
use FrontPage, whether by choice or necessity.
