Transfer deleted files to local drive

hmm

I understand that for files on a network server, deleting them is permanent
(i.e., they are not placed in the recycle bin). This is much too
unforgiving. Is there any way I can set things up so that if I delete such a
file, it will be transferred to my recycle bin (or anywhere else on my local
drive), allowing me another chance to reclaim it if it was deleted in error?

No. Protect yourself by 1) having a backup program running on the server
and 2) by changing your habits.

In addition to Malke's advice - if you're connecting to a W2003 server that
runs Volume Shadow Copy services (or whatever equivalent exists for the
server platform you use), you may be able to recover things yourself from
across the network, depending on when the last snapshots were taken. Or, if
the file itself has already been included in the nightly backup I presume
you run on the server, it can be restored from the backup media. Or you
could speak to your network admin about third party software such as network
undelete.
