I've bought a new computer and I'm trying to transfer my
old e-mails and addresses from my old hard drive (that
I've installed into my new computer). My old hard drive
contains Outlook 2000 data, and my new computer is 2003.
I followed the import instructions, but it says that its
unable to read the file.

You followed what instructions?
What messages did you get and at what point?
How did you save your old Outlook Data File?

Normally you just place the pst say from Outlook 2000 in the location where Outlook 2003 expects to find one. In Windows 2000 this is in C:\Documents and Settings\%profile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook where %profile% is the user name you use to log into Windows. Once that is done you can add that personal folder to your session of Outlook by going to File | Open | Outlook Data File...| and then choosing your Outlook 2000 pst which should be right there. Do this while Outlook Today in your Outlook 2003 Personal Folders is selected. Then you can just drag and drop the mail out of the 2000 pst into your 2003 pst. But one note here.

Opening the 2000 pst in Outlook 2003 like this will change the structure of the 2000 pst and you will no longer be able to open it in Outlook 2000 again. So if you want to keep its integrity do this with a copy of your 2000 pst.
