I have a HD that came out of my old system (Maxtor Diamond). I want to
look into it and transfer some of the data on that disc to my IBM
Thinkpad. Is there a way I can hook it up (in an external HD box) and
get that data out? Any other advice would help.

Should work with most external enclosures. They do not translate
the disk geometry or the like, they just access the same sectors
in the same order over a different protocol.

USB2 is one option. FireWire is the other if you Thinkpad has it.
FireWire is better, technically, but less common.
