Hi, Where does Outlook store the file responsible for automatic formatting of
colors in the month view? I am trying to transfer these settings between
computers and have tried the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" and also
"Backup" in Accessories sectin of XP but neither will capture these settings.
In the advanced tab of Backup I see Outlook under "username/application
data/microsoft" and also "username/local settings/application data/microsoft"
but neither seem to contaain the file responsible.
I am using Office 2003 and Windows XP Pro with all the latest updates.
Thanks for your help!

View settings are stored not in a file but in a hidden item in the folder. Therefore, you'd need to be using the same set of folders on both machines.

Sue, I am using an identical set of folders in an identical .pst file. I
believe the view settings you are talking about carry over but not the
automatic formatting (Edit>Automatic Formating).

In other words: The labels I had manually assigned to calander events
transfer to the new computer but automatic formatting rules and their labels
do not.

How go I access the hidden item in the folder?

I hope I am not simply misunderstanding your response. Thank you very much
for your help, Richard

Are you saying that you copied the entire old .pst file to your new computer and are now using it as your default information store on that machine? That is the only scenario under which you can expect views to work the same.

The only thing you can do with the hidden view item is delete it. You might as well skip that step and just re-edit the view settings.

Yes. On the old machine I had the .pst files on a seperate drive (actually a
partition) and I have simply copied outlook.pst and archive.pst to the new
machine. On the new machine they are also on a seperate drive from the main
program (in thiis case an external USB hard drive).

I had many rules set up for assigning calender events color labels
automatically. Are all these rules non-transferable? Or are they some how
hidden in the calander folder in the .pst file and I just cant get to them?

Thanks again, Richard

Automatic formatting rules are part of a named view. If the view is still there but the automatic formatting rules are not, then I don't know what the problem is and would suggest that you just recreate the view.

I want my new Outlook calendar to look like my old one. I don't share with a
group and thus have no interest in all those tools. I want two months to
appear on the right or left (makes no difference) and I want to see a whole
day's times. Right now, I can only get up one month and the daily calendar
has lines over 1 inch thick (totally unnecessary) so only five hours at a
time appear. My old Outlook let me see from 5 AM to 9 PM. I can find no
formatting tools to bring this about. Can any one help me?
