Now have a new computer. (And the old one too). Both have XP operating
systems. oOne SP2, other SP3. Would like to "easily" transfer files from old
to new. Have not unwrapped the USB transfer cable I bought at Best Buy,
mainly because it says file transfer between XP and Vista. Have sent a
question to that manufacturer.(XP to XP?) Also have Googled the subject with
varied results. Cat 5 or 6 cross cable, serial cable, USB cable, use a
modem..........
So, what's the best method to network the two together and transfer all of
my files?
Yes, I have copied them to a removable drive, like in the old days.
Also, can I do the same thing from Win 98 to XP ?
Peter in SLC. Thanx

Yes to the old way.
Yes to the cable (use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard in XP.)
Yes to using an external drive and the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard as
well.

Ethernet cable between the ethernet jacks of the two PCs.
This way you do not even need to define a network, and
can copy via Windows from any drive to any other.

And remember you can only transfer data files and installation setup files,
not program files
