Hi
My monitor has packed up on my desktop pc.
I have decided to buy a new pc but I don't want to lose any informatio
that is stored on my old one.
The old one runs on windows XP Pro.
I need the Easiest way possible please as I don't understand P
jargon.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Pa

IF both computers have network adaptors.. go buy a "cross network cable" its
a cable that you can connect 2 compters with eachother... OR if you have a
router-modem.. connect the new one too on the router to form a 2 comptuer
network.. then you can transfer the data via tha network.. but you will have
to set up some things...

another solution is to use an extrnal USB drive (if you have one) to move
all the data there and then disconnect the external from one PC and plug it
into the other to get the data...

and finally you can also back up the data on DVD disks if you have a dvd
burner.

One desktop ? or two computers ? If just one , why not just buy a new
monitor ?

Here are some of the ways to do it, in no particular order:

1. Diskettes

2. CDRs

3. E-mail from the old and read on the new

4. Network the two together

5. Thumb drive

6. Remove the old hard drive, mount it in a USB enclosure and read and
copy it on the new computer.

Which of these ways is best depends partly on how many files you have
and how big they are.

But once you've transferred the data, you have to be able to read it
on the new computer. That requires that you have appropriate software
installed on the new one. Do not make the mistake of thinking, as many
people do, that just because your old computer came with Microsoft
Word, for example, that the new one necessarily will too.
