Hi
Has anyone plaid with this kind of thing. I was wondering if I use
fingerprint to unlock, can I take it to another PC and do the same?
does it require software installed on a PC. If so it wouldn't. Also
older PCs like XP with USB 1.0. Any one played with this technology.

TIA

Desmond.

"Cons: This drive installs a program in \windows\system32 called UTSCSI.EXE
and that program is required for the drive to function. The program
runs a service called CLCV0. In order to uninstall it, you have to
manually figure it out, stop it, reboot, then manually remove the
program.

The problem is, this program kills my Vista Ultimate installation.
Directories take forever to open, shutdowns take 15 minutes instead
of 30 seconds, the machine bogs down and becomes impossible to work
on or with.

Their tech support says their drive didn't install this "virus", but
I've confirmed it multiple times. Their drive installs this
software--and it kills Vista. Even though the drive says
"WORKS WITH VISTA" on the package, it KILLS VISTA. ..."

"Cons: The software that comes with this drive is absolutely horrible.
It borders on rootkit like behavior. It installs itself on first
execution of the binary (or on first plug if you have *autoplay* enabled),
but there is no uninstall option in Add/Remove programs. The software
is making explorer crash for me on XP SP2. If you delete the UTSCSI.exe
service that it installs, you have to make sure you get the FPAPP stuff
that's in the Windows Run key or it will re-install the service behind
your back. Marking the service as disabled also gets reversed on a reboot."

Sounds like fun. I bet it's being sold at an unbelievably low price.

FWIW.
That is another good reason to make/keep backup copies of the
Windows partition. After my last installation many moons ago,
I still have only three (very ordinary looking) discrepancies in
RootkitRevealer. Now I use that utility in addition to a firewall
to help judge the soundness of an installation.
