tranfering files

I have a computer that has a lot of programs on it, and it was too slow. I recently purchased a computer that is fast enough to run those programs.problem is, how do i transfer all my files and programs from one computer to the other?
and con i do it without a serial wire?

You need some way to connect the computers (network, serial cable) or burn
the files onto CD, or temporarily put your old hard drive in your new PC,
set as slave to your new drive, and copy the files over.
