Trainsim-problems with XP

Can anybody advise - Trainsim used to work fine with 98
but on uograding to XP and reinstalling the screen blanks
out just as the game should start (i.e. after
selecting 'Drive a train'. The is a flash of a screen
with blue writing which disappears before you can read it
then the computer completely stops and reboots.
