Can MM2 be used to create a movie of my PC's screen activity, mouse movements, apps, etc.?

Use the Windows Media Encoder to capture the screen sessions and then put
the movie together with MM2. There's a link to the free Encoder package on
my Setup > Software page.

Hello PapaJohn-

Thank you very much. I downloaded the new Encoder, selected a ScreenCapture profile with both audio and video, since I find it much easier to narrate as I go, and made a 1 minute movie. The quality was excellent. Very acceptable for our needs. File size about 2 MB. However, if I bring it into MM2, maybe add an opening title and save it with the highest quality setting, the size goes through the roof (7X) and the quality drops significantly. These are WMVs. Any suggestions

Look at the properties of the one you made with the Encoder and then make a
custom profile for MM2 to clone it for comparable quality.

Hi

A slight "tanget" off this thread...

I have been really impressed with the Windows Media 9 Series screen codec

I have been looking at doing some Training Videos for my website and have a "rough" page up at

http://www.updatexp.com/speed-up-my-pc.htm

There is a WMV option...

I used Camtasia Studio 2 (www.techsmith.com) to capture and produce the screenshot movie. Then used it's export function to produce the WMV (screen codec) file

This is a 7 min file and only 1.44Mb file size!

Kind Regard

That's a good point Marc,

The screen capture option in the encoder uses a different codec than MM2
uses when saving a movie, and will be a much smaller file for the content.

So, unless Dave needs to use MM2 to add music or do other editing, he could
get the size benefit of the Media Video 9 Screen codec if he stops with the
output of the encoder.
