Under I.E. 5.5 I used to be able to enter alt+0153 in a
browser-based application and the trademark symbol would
appear and be saved. Now, with I.E. 6 I enter alt+0153
and the symbol appears but it does not get saved to my
database. An upside down question mark appears instead
when the data is displayed. I can use ™ but I have
a bunch of users who are used to alt+0153. Anybody know
what's going on here?

Thanks.

Have you declared a proper codepage?

The TM symbol is not part of the usual iso-8859-1 alphabet.

The codepage seems to be declared properly. The problem
is not displaying a properly stored character. The
problem is that I.E. seems to fail to interpret the
entered code properly and does not translate it to the
correct numbered entity (™) so it does not get saved
correctly by the application. I am wondering if Microsoft
simply dropped support for this symbol with I.E. 6 since
it was not a standard supported code.
