Tracking Word-documents in Activities-page on a Public Folder using "Mail Merge" or "New document"

We would like to know if there is a possibility to track word-documents
using the "Tools - Mail Merge.." og the "Action - New letter to Contact"
commands from the menuline. The reason for this need is that we send a lot
of promotional letters to a lot of contacts and we would like to register
this in order to follow up the clients and the "Journal"-function for the
personal folder is not sufficient because we want all the other PC's in the
organisation to be able to look at which movements have been made on each
client/contact.

We have Exchange 2000 on a new DELL server with Windows 2000 SP4 running MS
SBS2000 and we are using the "Public Folders" with a public "Contacts"
folder where we currently track all mails sent and received in the
"Activities"-page for each of our business contacts.

This isn't built into Office, but some third-party mail merge tools can do it. See http://www.slipstick.com/addins/mail.htm#massmail. I haven't specifically looked to see if they can post activity from a public folder merge.
