track mail merge

Hello there!

I wonder if anyone can tell me if it is possible to set up some way of
tracking which contacts have been used for a particular mail merge. What I
have in mind would be an automated entry into a note field in the contact's
details to record that they were included for a particular merge. Any
suggestions greatly appreciated!!
