Is it possible to do a traceroute between two remote hosts without having
any special software installed on those hosts?

If so, how is it done?

Thx!

PS... let me know if there is a more relevant newsgroup to post this
question to.

Tracert doesn't care about where the hosts are - it either can or cannot
trace the path between the two PCs in question. Perhaps if you could more
fully explain what you're trying to do and/or what problem you're having we
can help you more.

Sure it cares. I will only provide info from the host machine from which it
is executed and a remote machine that you specify. You cannot tell
Traceroute to trace between two remote specified machines.

As far as special software to accomplish this... you need to be able to
telnet into one of the remote machines and run Traceroute from that machine
to another remote machine. So, a telnet client/server and proper logon
credentials are necessary.

Ah - correct you are, I misread the original question and did not realize
that he wanted to sit at one PC and run a TRACERT between two others.
