Tracer and ISP to Find out a person is Real or not and there Location by both?

In the past few weeks Ive been bombarded by emails and Instant Messages
, mostly people who state there from Nigeria and 2 from England! Is
there any way , with freeware, That I can locate theses people where
there comunicating from and if there Real or not? Im a novice computer
operator so you may already know why I am asking such a quetion HELP
Please!

Never reply to spammers. All that does is guarantee that
they will bombard you with more spam.

Windows XP has a command line utility, tracert.exe

Launch a CMD prompt (aka DOS Box) and run tracert (trace route)
and you'll get something like:

[c:\]tracert news.alt.net

Tracing route to news.alt.net [207.14.116.130]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <10 ms <10 ms <10 ms smoothwall [10.255.255.254]
....
15 110 ms 110 ms 100 ms ge2-6.br01.lax04.pccwbtn.net [63.218.51.29]
16 220 ms 180 ms 271 ms news.alt.net [207.14.116.130]

Trace complete.

The DNS names that are listed may or may not be accurate.
Many spammers use proxies that make it difficult to determine
the origin of spam and other network abuse.

There are many web pages with detailed information on tracking
down spammers, but it's not something a newbie should be doing.
Several spammers are downright evil criminals and have caused
problems for their victims, despammers and network abuse staffs.

Educate yourself -- search for "Nigerian" a.k.a. "4-1-9" scam.
AOL should have some comments on that.

OTOH, if you like what you read in those email ...

mock me well you too were once a Novice!
Now I was able to get tracert going, but how do I get there ISP
number? Or for instance when they try to chat with me on Yahoo Instant
messenger? I dont know what to put in except news.aly.net? Any HELP?

I have heard that you should not even do a TRACERT as it will send out
test signals with your IP address on to the spam site.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?
