Touchscreen - PowerPoint problem

I have run into a problem in running interactive programs composed in
PowerPoint and running on a touchscreen computer for public use in a
Museum. In general the on-screen buttons (set up with hyperlinks) work with
no problem, but they occasionally freeze-up. The remedy to unfreeze them
seems to be to slide one's finger across the screen to the offending button,
though this is obviously unsatisfactory.

I have changed the pointer settings on the touchscreen program without
success. The company supplying the computers have also replaced the machines
and carried out other work, all to no avail. I suspect that more detail will
be required from me, but I would be grateful if someone might be able to at
least hazard a guess of what might be the underlying reason for the problem.
could it be a bas install of PowerPoint, or the way I have set up the
programs?

Bill,

Most "touchscreens" just emulate a mouse.

I'd set up the same computer, but remove the touchscreen (and any special software installed for the touchscreen). Use a
normal mouse. Use a normal monitor. Does the problem still exist?

That way you can say for sure...."is the touchscreen causing the problem"

Hi Bill,

Have you got the slide shows set up to run in Kiosk mode?
This will automatically disable the "advance on mouse
click" setting for the slides that may be contributing to
the problem. Just a guess.

Thanks for suggestions - even though they weren't helpful! I have found
that by removing animation from the offending buttons, then the problem has
been largely solved.
