Touch Screen POS

Can anyone tell me how a touch screen POS monitor works? In other words, do
I just set it up and go or do I need to use any type of manufacturer
interface with it? I'm thinking of using one as a kiosk for web based POS.

Generally a special monitor is needed which can detect the touch input.
Usually a software driver goes along with it.
Then generally that software just converts touches into standard mouse click
events.
