I have dell xps and the touch pad works and the scrolling bars on the pad do
not work now after installing the windows vista . any help will be great . i
called dell and they have no clue.

It is probably a Synaptics touch pad. This is a known problem with the
Synaptics Vista drivers. I have the same behavior on an Acer notebook.. We
will have to wait until either Synaptics or the computer manufacturer
release an updated driver.

I have the xps m170 and am experiencing the same thing with the touchpad
after upgrading to vista, along with no sound from the headphone jack. Did
you do a clean install or upgrade?
Please post a solution if you happen to get one from an outside source.
Thanks

I try to fix the problem with the updates from the touch pad companys main
website but still nothing. So i am giving up till there is an upgrade for it.
Dont bother calling dell its a waist of time.

I was using XP and am now using Vista on a HP Pavilion laptop and don't know
where or how to turn off the touch pad. It is driving me crazy!!!! Can
anyone help please?

I'm having a similar problem... I have a Dell Inspiron 1705 that was running
MS XP and I just upgraded to MS Vista Home Premium Edition. I can't figure
out how to turn of the "tapping" feature on the touch pad. It was easy on XP
- control panel -mouse-divices -touch pad..and just turn it off. No such
control can I finf in Vista once you get to the mouse section under control
panel. It drives me crazy...do I just have to live with this or is there a
"switch" that I'm unaware of?

Any solution on this problem yet? I have the Dell Inspiron E1705 and I am
experiencing the same problem. My touch pad doesn't allow me to scroll w/o
grabbing the scroll bar. Very annoying!!!

Do you mean that the scroll bar buttons don't auto-repeat?
I had the same thing on my HP laptop but fixed it by going into
the Synaptics device settings, Tapping, Tap and Drag, and
selecting the first option: "Tap again and hold to drag."
The only way I found this was by comparing the settings on
my XP machine (which worked properly) with the settings on
the Vista machine.
