I was able to disable the 'left mouse click' feature of my touchpad when I
was using "Me." However, I have been advised that is not possible with "XP."
Is this true??
I very much want to accomplish the disabling, since the TP is so sensitive
it gets me into trouble as I move around the screen. I have a Compac series
1200 notebook with XP-Pro.

The touchpad is controlled by the driver and software that has been
installed for it. If XP was able to install a basic driver, that driver was
provided by the hardware manufacturer to be added to the XP driver base.
That basic driver may or may not allow configuration of the touchpad, its
buttons and the double-tap feature.

Check the manufacturer's website for more current drivers/software for the
touchpad. If marked as suitable for use with XP, download and install it.

I updated an older Compaq laptop (originally came with Win98SE) to XP Home.
Compaq did not provide updated XP drivers for the touchpad but I was able
to install and use the driver/software that I found at Synaptics' website.
I'm not recommending that you do that too. But if you are unable to find
what you need at the Compaq site, you *might* want to try the same with the
understanding that it may not work as well for you as it did for me.

Sharon: I found the needed touchpad driver at Synaptics! It is installed and
all is well. Thanks very much for your help.

You're welcome! Glad to hear that it worked out well for you too.
