Totally Screwed - Word 97 won't work with XP

I bought a new notebook, Fujitsu, a good product. But it
came with MS Windows XP. I installed my old office direct
from disk. It didn't work well but at least it would save.

I found out I could set "compatibility" for programs and
did that for every application in the Word folder. Now Word
won't save word documents.

Great, I'd just started writing a book so now I have
several longish documents I want to get to and work with
and I can't.

I figure this is just more Bill Gates ripoff. Make it
incompatible but lie and say it will work. After the person
becomes frustrated, they'll upgrade to a new word program.
RIP, RIP, RIP!

I guess I'm going to go and find a decent suite of programs
which isn't sold by a dirty rat. Now I know wny my
corporation has decided to stick with eight year old
windows and office programs. Who can afford to be screwed
with this way? Multibillion dollar corporation. :-)

I'll put my two cents in. Let's all go to UNIX.

Yours,
Jackie
This dragon is not laughing.

Thanks, Chek.

I tried your good suggestion, but didn't have any luck.

I turned off all the compatibilities and got the system
back to where it was before, at least Word saves a file.

I bought EasyOffice for $28-.

The only thing that's difficult to replace is the more
sophisticated parts of Excel. I'm an analyst and make
vlookup systems using Excel and SAS mainframe programming.
Guess I can't take work home anymore :-)
:) :)

Yours,
Jackie

Could maybe try switching the compatability on winword.exe - if its set to
Win95 try Win98, and combinations. It *might* have some effect.
Also maybe try

Office 97 works quite well with Windows XP and there are a large
number of people who are using it regularly with little or no problem.

What exactly are the problems that you are having? We cannot see your
computer and so we depend entirely on the users to describe their
problems, including the complete verbatim text of any and all error
messages, so that we can help them to resolve these.

Good luck
