Jeff

I am trying to setup a Active Directory on my home office... (1 server and 1
client). The server is running Windows 2003 server and the client is running
win98SE.

I want to setup this behind my router/firewall!

I run the "Active Directory Installation Wizard" on the server, and this is
what I select in
the wizard:
- Domain controller for a new domain -> click next
- New domain name (jalla.bug) -> click next
- continue to click next with the default options until I get this
message:

Message starts here
Diagnostic Results:
The registration diagnostic has been run 1 times
The DNS zone authoritative for the domain jalla.bug cannot be updated
because it is the DNS root zone. Domain controllers will not send dynamic
updates the DNS root zone. If new want to use this domain name, select
"Install and configure the DNS server on this computer" below and create a
delegation for the new DNS zone jalla.bug from the root zone of this DNS
server
....
Details:
The primary DNS server tested was: a.root-servers.net (198.41.0.4)
The zone was: .(root)
Domain controller will not send dynamic updates the DNS root zone.

Here I get 3 options:

option 1:
"I have corrected the problem. Perform the DNS diagnostic test again"

option 2:
"Install and configure the DNS server on this computer, and set this
computer to use this DNS server as its preffered DNS server"

option 3:
"I will correct the problem later by configuring DNS manually (Advanced)"

Message ends here

Question:
What shall I do here??, remember I want this to run behind my
router/firewall (3COM OfficeConnect CableDSL Gateway).

I'm a total newbie to this so please excuse what may sound like a dumb
question. Please...

Best Regards

Jeff

On your Windows 2003 system, make sure you are pointed to your OWN ip
address for DNS. This will help in the process of having the dcpromo create
the zones locally for ya. Then make sure you enable a forwarder to your
ISP's dns server after all the zones are created.
