Total McAfee Removal Prior to Norton Installation

I did the add/remove for McAFee so I cn start frsh wth Norton. Parts of
McAfee are still booting up since I did the removal. What is th best way to
totally remove McAFee related programs once & for all. I don't want to
intall Norton until it's off. Thanks

Going from the frying pan to the fire? McAfee is bad enough, but Norton is
worse.

Choose Avast, AVG, etc., in prefernce to either of them.
 
Out of the pan and into the fire.. forget Norton.. use AVG..

I was thinking the same thing, Mike. LOL

That makes three of us--down to the same language (at least in my case).

Althogh AVG is much ligher than Norton , obviously , it is not better
in detection and prevention malware infections , *obviously* nor AVG detects
non-viral malware which is definitely plus for Norton . I also don't like it
but we'll need OPs opinion of what exactly he/she needs .

I use AVG free and SpywareBlaster. I don't have a problem with either. They
do not consume resources like some products out there, and have successfully
protected my computer and the other five that run on my home network.

Question.. why would I want to pay out for programs that eat resources in
the attempt to do a 'better' job, and can it be said that any program that
does this is actually the better product?. I don't think so.

AVG version 6 received bad press re detection rates, but the current version
is 7, and I have seen nothing bad said about it.
 
Norton sucks.

I don't think that anyone can come up with a more succinct description of
Norton/Symantec.

AVG Free 7 works fine.

I have used AVG 6 and 7 and had no problems with either one.

I'd been a pretty loyal Norton user for years and years and years, until $
got a little tight at renewal time.

It took hours of uninstalls and regedits to remove all traces of it from my
system, and I STILL find traces of it lurking about.

Never again!

AVG is great - Kaspersky has a free online check as well that is pretty
substantial.

I use Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D, and I seem to be running pretty free and easy!

I also used Norton successfully for many years, and never had a problem, so
I pooh-poohed the advice of others who told me how terrible it was. Then I
ran into a string of severe problems, on several differemt machines, and
became a convert to their way of thinking.

The insidious thing about Norton is that for many people it often works well
without problems for a while, sometimes for a long while. Then one day, the
problems start.
 
What amazed me was how much quicker my machines booted once it was gone...
Removing NAV and System Works cut MINUTES out of my bootup time.

Well, that may be soi, but it's not a significant advantage to me. My
personal view is that the attention many people pay to how long it takes to
boot is unwarranted. Assuming that the computer's speed is otherwise
satisfactory, it may not be worth worrying about. Most people start their
computers once a day or even less frequently. In the overall scheme of
things, even a few minutes to start up isn't very important. Personally I
power on my computer when I get up in the morning, then go get my coffee.
When I come back, it's done booting. I don't know how long it took to boot
and I don't care.
