I have a daily chart showing 3 sets of values in bar chart.

I now need to add a total line to display daily total of
these 3 values with a line (not with another bar)

I tried using treadline but could not get it to do what i
wanted.

Can anyone help?

A simple way would be to add a new series to the chart which will
be another set of columns. Select that new series and change its
chart type to a line chart (right click on the series and select from the
popup menu). Add a trend line to this series and extend it by 0.5
forwards and backwards. Set the markers and line for the actual
series to "None". Change the name of the trendline to something
suitable like "Total" - double click the trendline and change the
name of it.

The series you want to add will have two values, in a column
beside (or row above or below) your original data. The first
cell in the range (top or left) and the last cell in the range (bottom
or right) will be the sum of the real data.

Chrissy.

Put the totals in some range in the worksheet. Add this range to the
existing chart as a new series.

If you have a column chart, XL will add it as a column. Select this
new series in the chart. Select Chart | Chart Type... | select a line
chart.

If you have a bar chart, XL will add it as a bar. Select this new
series in the chart. Select Chart | Chart Type... | select a XY
Scatter chart. You will have to adjust the secondary x/y axis min/max
values to get the desired effect.
