total amount of RAM misreported by XP

Mick

I installed 2 X 256 meg RAM sticks on my mobo (checked
beforehand, and the RAM is supported, etc) but XP is only
reporting 362 meg.

I checked Microsoft's KB for this problem and one of the
causes (so it would suggest)may be related to the fact
that my video adaptor is an onboard-mobo type. This may
well be part/all of the problem - but MS did not offer any
solution to it! (see:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;146912 )

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thx

I would have thought that the 'solution' would have been obvious - buy a
proper graphics card and switch off the on-board!Having said that, no
on-board uses 150MB - the most is 128 (which I suspect yours is using) so
that leaves a descrepancy of 22MB, which could partly be accounted for with
the difference between a decimal and a binary megabyte.

This is a "New users group" pull your jabs here.
