A couple of times when I turn on the computer and need to access a CD
in the drive, it says CD/DVD drive not found. So I go to my computer,
and it only lists the floppy drive, not the CD drive. So after much
restarting of my computer, it starts working. Can anyone tell me why
this happens, and is this drive defective?

Might be failing, or could just be a loose power cable, lose
or damaged data cable. Less often a struggling power supply
might make a drive act flaky but this seems least likely if
the only problem with the system is this one drive... though
you might check the voltages just to rule this out.

Other times it might POST too fast to enumerate all the
drives. You might see if, when it doesn't detect it, if it
matters to <CTRL><ALT><DEL> to reset the system, or if goig
directly into the bios after turning it on, then exiting
bios and trying to use the drive then works.

How about if you had system running then reset/reboot it,
does the drive always work then?
