Though my Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R2002 is recognized in device
manager and functions properly as a CD ROM player and DVD
ROM player, Win2000 does not recognize it as a writeable
drive.
This was encountered after upgrading from WinME... the
drive operated properly under that OS.
Toshiba indicates that there is no updated driver for this
hardware item, nor is there any on the Microsoft website.
Here are my system credentials:
OS Name Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
Version 5.0.2195 Service Pack 4 Build 2195
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Manufacturer Dell Computer Corporation
System Model Inspiron 8100
System Type X86-based PC
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 11 Stepping 1
GenuineIntel ~996 Mhz
BIOS Version Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A08
Windows Directory C:\WINDOWS
System Directory C:\WINDOWS\system32
Boot Device \Device\Harddisk0\Partition1
Total Physical Memory 523,736 KB
Available Physical Memory 399,060 KB
Total Virtual Memory 1,799,840 KB
Available Virtual Memory 1,557,960 KB
Page File Space 1,276,104 KB
Page File C:\pagefile.sys
And here's the hardware ID:
Drive D:
Description CD-ROM Drive
Media Loaded False
Media Type CD-ROM
Name TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2002
Manufacturer (Standard CD-ROM drives)
Status OK
Transfer Rate Not Available
SCSI Target ID 1
PNP Device ID IDE\CDROMTOSHIBA_DVD-ROM_SD-
R2002________________1E29____\5&377F14D&0&0.1.0
I have read that it may be necessary to make a registry
change to have the drive properly recognized, but am
unsure what value would require modification.
Any assistance in solving this problem would be sincerely
appreciated.
