Hi

A friend of mine has just bought a new Toshiba DVD burner. He has an AMD
900mhz, and I'm not sure what MoBo.

Win XP recognises the drive (and it shows in bios as secondary master, the
only drive on secondary IDE)

It will play audio fine, but will not recognise any kind of data disc
inserted, or blank DVD media.

Is this likely to be a firmware issue?

Any advice appreciated.

Nik

Try starting the computer with a win98 startup disk, enabling CD-ROM as it
boots. Put in any data disk and see if it reads it. If it does then it's
probably not the burner, but something in the OS. I'd like to know myself
that answer.

I think I get what you mean..

Set the burner as the 1st bootable drive, with a WIN98 disc in, and see if
it reads it as it boots??

Thanks, if that's what you mean I'll give it a go!
