Good day,

I surfed Microsoft's site in search of an AutoShape that would be a "Torn
edge effect" and that would let me insert a quote in PowerPoint 2003.

If ever someone knows about something like this, please let me know.

Your help is greatly appreciated, as always.

Thanks!

Helene

Helen,

it's not available as an PowerPoint AutoShape. You could use the freehand
line to draw such an object yourself. Or you use SnagIt, www.techsmith.com,
to make a screenshot of your quote. It has an editor which lets you apply
this effect easily.

Best regards,
Ute

Thank you, Ute.

I already use SnagIt (and love it, by the way) but it was for a user who
does not, and is not allowed to, have SnagIt. And, yes, you are right, it
does give me the effect I'm looking for. I was hoping I could help this user
become more independent!

I create my own torn pages often with basic powerpoint tools. Let's say you
have an existing picture. Using your Autoshapes Freeform Line tool, draw the
torn edge on your existing image, then draw outside/away from the image
(e.g., draw a square) and close it. Fill the drawn object with a color that
highly contrasts with your original image. Now select both the original image
and the newly drawn object. Hit CTRL-X to cut the object, then File > Paste
Special > PNG to paste the image. Keep it selected. Next go to your picture
tool bar and select the Set Transparent Color tool (looks like a wand). Click
on the area that was your new object. It will disappear. Crop out the extra
lines of the object and you'll be left with a torn edge on your original
image.

I would love to know if this was of any help to you.
