Top Web Publish is Deleting Major Parts of Subwebs??

My main website is arranged as a top or master web which has some
content. Then there are 5 sub webs (I may not be using the right
nomenclature) which I maintain independently.

A few weeks ago when I updated the top web it deleted major sections
of all of the sub webs. Not everything just a lot. If there is a
pattern, images are most affected. Then directories named Private.

It just happened again today. What's happening and how do I stop it?

Verify your subwebs are really subwebs (w/ a web icon for the folder name)
- double clicking a subweb should open a new instance of FP

Both of those things are true. That's what I mean by a subweb.

Perhaps I should add. I have been using FrontPage for more than 6
years and have owned 3 versions. I am currently using version 2002.

Check with your web host to see if they by change un-installed and then re-installed the extensions,
or did a restore, etc.

The first time this happened I had to have them restore one of the
subwebs. They assured me at the time they had not done anything that
affected my account in the couple of weeks leading up to this first
event.

By the way, it seems to be a consistent thing now. Early today I ran
a dry publish to see what happened and it did it's bad act. I've not
been able to deduce a perfectly consistent pattern but it seems to
delete subdirectories of the subwebs. Not all of them but most of
them and none of the files in the first level directory of the
subwebs.

Presuming either your local to remote site is still intact
Find and delete web cache files ( *.web ) on your PC found in the folder
%AppData%\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
Then try setting your Publishing settings to Publish All (including subwebs) one time, before you set back to changes only

In fact both are intact because I keep rebuilding the remote site set
from the local.

I tried it. In fact I tried it 3 times.

First it deletes the same miscellaneous set of files from the remote
server. Then it publishes the top web and three of my 5 subwebs. At
the fourth subweb it reports "Listing Pages for . . ." the subweb and
grinds and grinds - finally it fails and reports:

'Could not find web server at [my_domain_name.com] on Port 80. Please
make sure your server name is valid and proxy settings are correct.
If it isn't one of these problems your web server is out of service.'

I take it the long silence means no one here has anymore ideas.

Just to add a couple of updates.

It appears the part of the subwebs that are being deleted is the
subdirectories. It seems to delete all subdirectories except for the
odd little directories with the underlines in their names created by
FrontPage itself. It leaves these directories. I don't know about
their contents. It also leaves the main directory for each subweb
intact.

I removed and reinstalled FP from the remote server.
