Hi, I posted this message yesterday but now I can't find it. My question is
this: When I connect to the internet, I have to click on Tools, Internet
Options, Settings, and then click Automatically Detect Settings, click on OK,
and then exit. The next time I log on, I have to do the same thing again.
Isn't there a way I can set this to stay on so I can eliminate this processs?
Thank you for your help.

I am running Windows XP SP2. After that part of your question, I became
lost. lol Thanks anyhow.

Hmmm -
Are you logged into the machine as an Administrator account? - or as a
Limited user account?

Are you connected to a network??

Try this
Go to Internet Options.
make sure that the 'blob' is in the 'Always Dial my default connection'
setting, and that the correct connection is set as default.
click on the Settings button, and then on the Dial-up settings Properties
button
Make sure that the correct device is specified in the General tab as the
connection device (and that all others are unchecked) - click OK to get back
to the Settings page.
UNcheck the 'Use a proxy server'
Click OK (leave the Auto detect unchecked for the present)
click on the LAN Settings button, and make sure that everything there is
UNchecked, and OK out
try connecting again.

If that doesn't work, then you should probably be thinking about testing for
malware of some kind - are you aware of any recent virus or spyware/adware
infections??

Why are you doing this? Does your ISP (or administrator) require it?
If so, then ask them; otherwise leave all those options unchecked
as they can just cause unnecessary delay for an initial connection.

I suspect you don't need it. If there are some specific symptoms that
you are trying to address by doing this it would help greatly if you described
them in detail.
