Hi all,

There used to be a "general" tab in the internet options
section in the tools menu. It's gone! Now I can't delete
cookies, online content, history etc. Any tips? Thanks.

Refer Fix 268 from Kelly's site:

Restores all tabs in IE and removes all the browser restrictions.

The main cause is spyware/browser hijackers. Download Ad-Aware from
www.lavasoftusa.com and eliminate the spyware.

I just spent 4 hours racking my brain and the internet to
fix the problem of the missing GENERAL TAB in the internet
options. BE WARNED your computer was most likely hijacked
by scumbags trying to make money on the greater number of
hits on their site. You need to get protection which
seems to be available free of charge on the internet. The
immediate fix for the missing tab is as follows:
-go to this website http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
-download the hijackthis file
-open up the zip file
-do a scan
-locate this line below from the list:
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Control Panel present
-check the box to the left
-click on fix checked button
That should set you back in the conrol seat
