Greetings.

I have a specific taskbar/toolbars setup:
- on the top of the screen
- quick launch on, everything else original from WinXP off
- 3 custom toolbars
- all toolbars in 2 lines, locked

Today, the system started acting weird. Everytime I logon, I have:
- on the top of the screen
- quick launch and search assistant on
- no custom toolbars

It doesn't matter if I change the settings. When I restart the system
or logoff and logon again, the setup is the default, nor the one I set
up.

It happens with all the users I tried and I couldn't find anything
useful on the help files.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you for your time,
Joaquim Amado Lopes

The "Search Assistant" bar is a malware, and it seems to reset the Taskbar settings.

Type the command in RUN box.
Regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\System32\omniband.dll

Then, rename C:\Windows\System32\omniband.dll to old_omniband.dll and restart Windows.

Download all the spyware cleaners and run them.

If the Taskbar preferences are not saved, apply the fix 240 at Kelly's site:

(Programs Aren't Minimized in the Taskbar - This repairs the taskbar)

If nothing helps, run this program and post the Log file here:

Type the command in RUN box.
Regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\System32\omniband.dll

Then, rename C:\Windows\System32\omniband.dll to old_omniband.dll and restart Windows.
I did this. The result was that, no matter how I set up the toolbars,
after restarting no toolbar was visible. Also, the "Search Assistant"
toolbar wasn't listed on the toolbars list.

Renaming old_omniband.dll to omniband.dll again turn everything back
to how it was before.

Exactly, what did regsvr32 do?
Download all the spyware cleaners and run them.

I have to do ALL of this? I'm not very keen on running vbs scripts or
exe files from sources I don't know.
If nothing helps, run this program and post the Log file here:

Have you heard of this kind of problem before or is it something new?
Can you explain to me what is going on and why it is happening?

Thank you for your time.
Take care,

Just to answer one of your questions.

regsvr32 /u unregisters a .dll file so that you can rename it or
delete it. regsvr32 without the /u registers the same kind of file.

Thank very much you, Ed.

Any chance you can explain to me what is happening with my system?
