When I click on Task Bar | Toolbars I see that Quick Launch is checked--but
also checked is Windows Media Player. I can see no such toolbar, or any
change when I remove the check mark. It's the same when WMP is opened. What
am I supposed to see when this toolbar is checked?
Also, there is one called Desktop (unchecked). What is this for?

The WMP toolbar is a cool feature. To see it in action, start Windows Media
Player and play some music or a video. Now minimize the Player and check out
the controls.

The Desktop toolbar is useful if you have a monitor full of open windows and
you need to get to something on your desktop. To see it at its best, drag
the left border all the way over to the right side of your taskbar, untill
all you see is the word 'Desktop' and the double arrowheads. Now fill your
monitor with open windows. Click on the Desktop toolbar and you'll have easy
access to your desktop.

I'll check out the WMP toolbar.
The desktop toolbar as you describe it sounds like the "return to Desktop"
shortcut that's in Quick Launch (by default).

Original question about media player was:
What is media player doing on the taskbar > toolbars > ?
It does not show up if turned on?
Turned off media player still opens from other locations.
Other items in taskbar > toolbars change appearance of
the taskbar. Media player on taskbar does nothing.
Must be something leftover from previous windows and just
forgetten by techs.
