I seem to have forgotten how to do something. I have a couple of folders in
my taskbar. they are in the vertical section and have submenus coming off
of them, much like the start menu.

For some reason I can't remember how I got them to do that. When I create
new folders, I don't get the little arrow that points to submenus. It
actually opens up as a link.

What am i not doing?

If the folder is hidden (not enough room to display) then by default a shotcut will open a folder and an actual folder will be a menu, if not hidden both will open.

If you set this registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
in the registry and add the following DWord value
CascadeFolderBands and set it to 1.

Then an arrow will appear next to folders (not shortcuts) which will popup a menu (note the arrow is invisable if using XP theme) while clicking the icomn will open a folder.

Perhaps you used the method described here.

Doesn't seem to be right. i never went into the registry to do it the first
time. but I'll keep trying. Thanks for the help.

Well I said two ways it could be done without editing the registry and one way with editing the registry.

I think I figured it out by creating the folder on th desktop and MOVING the
folder onto the taskbar, not copying it. Then i move it into the
non-visible part and voila.

Thanks for the help though.
