I have recently had computer fixed, and now cannot get the arrow on the
toolbar that you click on to show or hide the unused icons,,,help

Right click an empty area of the toolbar (to the left of where the arrow
should be).
Click Properties.
Put a check in "Hide inactive icons"

Did the repair shop do a new installation of XP?

If so, it will take a few days before XP will start hiding the icons.

Thanks Wesley Vogel, seems to have worked......

Right click in the Notification area and select "customize notifications."
Find the item that you want to hide. Click on the words that are on the
same line as that item but in the right hand column. When clicked, a hidden
drop down list becomes apparent. Select "Always Hide" from the list. When
finished, click OK to close the customizing screen and to apply the
changes.

Note: you can also get to "customize" (on the taskbar page) using
Taskbar/Start Menu in Control Panel.

Thank you!

That got my arrow back.

Any idea why I have to do this work around?

You're welcome!

I have no explanation of why the problem arises; it just does. And it has
been common enough that it's posted often in these newsgroups.

Thanks again!
