Hi,
Sure, close all your IE Windows, then click Start, then Run, type
"regedit" and click OK.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Extensions. Click the + next to the Extensions key (looks like a
folder if you're not familiar with registry editing in this manner), and
go through each GUID [like {FB5F1910-F110...}] until you get to the
Messenger one. You'll know it's the Messenger one because the Exec and
other string data will point to \Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe.
After you've found it, double-click the ButtonText string, replace it with
Messenger, click OK and exit the editor. Then just reopen IE and you
should see the change immediately (no reboot required).

Can someone (Jonathan?) give me the registry edit for changing the
windows messenger icon text on the IE6 toolbar - verson 5.1 (5.1.0639) -
I want it to read 'Messenger' and not 'Windows Messenger' which causes
the button to drop off the end of the toolbar !!
