My company upgraded my work PC from W98 to XP. I used to work with keynotes
and had F12 set to bring the window to the front. Now I reinstalled keynotes
but F12 appears to be used and it does not work anymore with keynotes.

How can I find out which program is set to use F12? And is there a way
or tool to remap this key?

I recently came across the web page of FKeys:
http://www.max2k.com/programs.php?id=11

I noticed that it explicitely says:
"Important: On Windows 2000/XP you can't use the F12 key "

So it appears that this indeed is an issue on these systems.
Apparently KeyNote and e.g. FKeys do not let you use the F12 key.
I just tried and found that PowerPro also does not let me use it.

You could just accept the fact (use e.g. a different F-key or Ctrl+F12).

If you really *must* use the F12 key, you might want to try AutoHotkey.
http://www.autohotkey.com/ This is a program based on AutoIt.
I guess it would enable you to write a script (and compile the script to
an exe).
Probably also AutoIt lets you do it.
R.L. reading this? ;-)

Maybe Microsoft's keyboard Layout Creator can help?

(Copied from http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/msklc.mspx)

The Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator

Ever wanted to quickly and easily define your own keyboard layout for
a language Microsoft doesn't support? Or define your own keyboard
layout so you can quickly and easily enter your favorite symbols with
a simple keystroke? Well, want no more: the Microsoft Keyboard Layout
Creator is here!

The Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator (MSKLC) extends the
international functionality of Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows
Server 2003 systems by allowing users to:

Create new keyboard layouts from scratch
Base a new layout on an existing one
Modify an existing keyboard layout and build a new layout from it
Multilingual input locales within edit control fields.
Package the resulting keyboard layouts for subsequent delivery and
installation.

Well, I think I'm using F11 instead. Will get used to it, too.

You can keep using F12 with the following method:

In KeyNote: configure F11 to be the activation hotkey.
Then install KeyTweak : http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick
Remap (swap) the F11 and F12 keys as follows:

KeyTweaks main screen shows a keyboard
+ click the F12 key on that screen keyboard (#123)
choose new remapping: F11
+ click the F11 key on that screen keyboard (#122)
choose new remapping: F12

Click apply and restart the computer

Note: of course from now on F11 and F12 are swapped system wide

Well, I think that causes more 'problems' than it solves. Thank you for
your suggestion, but I'm going to get used to use F11.
