Hi!

I am looking for a S.M.A.R.T. harddisk monitoring tool, that alarms me
through a network or email when problems with harddisks occur.
Preferrably free, of course :-)

There are lots of monitoring tools but they only give a visual alarm
(which obviously doesn't help me when I am not there :-))

Thanks for your ideas!

Best regards,
Martin

smartmontools. smartd from this package will send email to
configurable addresses on configurable events. At least it
does so on Linux or other Unox-loke OSes. Not sure how this is
solved under Windows.

Yes, pretty unusable for servers and other "allways-on" machines.

Will use the system event log, send popup & network messages, play
sounds, and yes send you an email message. I bought licenses some
time ago because it was the only thing I could find for windows that
seemed half decent (one tool looked promising but was so bad it
reported healthy status of a drive even though it had exceeded smart
thresholds & the manufacturer had issued a RMA). That was a while ago
so your options may be broader now.

Thanks, to both of you. ActiveSmart looks great, and I think I'll buy it.

Best regards,
Martin

If you buy it you should be entitled to all updates (future major &
minor releases). I don't think that policy has changed. Only thing
is that you may have to write the developer for a new registration key
even for minor updates. I don't find it too much of an annoyance as
requests tend to be processed quickly.

good luck

I just tried the trial version, and it appeared in the tray, but twice froze
my Win2k system when I clicked on the tray icon to open its window. I
uninstalled it and reinstalled it but same thing each time.
