Hello,

My AT&T Yahoo! toolbar keeps appearing (it seems at random) even though I
have it turned off and the tool bars are locked. Also, I am able to toggle
all the other toolbars on and off even when the toolbars are locked. It
would seem that the toolbar locking function is broken.

Any help would be appreciated, since the random appearance of the A/Y
toolbar is very annoying.

Thanks,
Roy

Hi C,

The Yahoo toolbar has been causing problems with IE (see previous posts). I
beleive they (YH) are still calling it a beta product.

Try uninstalling the toolbar.

Regards.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the info. I was afraid uninstalling it might be the advice. I can
certainly live without it, except that I will have to delete the Yahoo
pop-up blocker at the same time because the blocker and toolbar go together.

The other part of my message concerned being able to toggle the regular IE
toolbars on and off while the toolbars are locked. This should not happen,
should it?

Thanks,
Roy

Hi Roy,

The later versions of the Yahoo toolbar include tabbed browsing which work
the same as the msn (now live) toolbar by overlying whole windows on top of
each other to give the impression of tabs, but it is still buggy as they
cannot persist the toolbars state (If you have a look in your task manager
you will see a number of Internet Explorer windows running even though you
may see only one window on your desktop).

Removing the yahoo toolbar should return the toolbar to its expected
behaviour.

If you like tabbed browsing you could try the live toolbar (made by
Microsoft) http://www.toolbar.live.com or there is Internet Explorer v7
which is Microsofts latest version which has tabbed browsing, popup
blocking, address bar searching and phishing filter built-in
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx

I personally discourage toolbar addins for IE (for the very reason that I
think the Yahoo toolbar should not have been released ) but it is hard to
enjoy web surfing without a popup blocker and a search engine.

Although V7 is still in the final stages of development and users are still
reporting some discomfort I have had no problems with it, and with the popup
blocker and phishing filter built-in I think it is excellent protection for
both the novice and power web surfer.

Check the MS downloads site for their latest software releases. They are
committed to making home computing safer.

Regards.

Rob,

Thanks so much for the explanation, and I will certainly check out the links
you provided.

Roy,

I am also have a problem with the toolbar. Suddenly, IE loses it settings
or peferenes. It's at random throughout the day WHILE I'm using it. I could
have one window open that has all the toolbars arranged like I want them and
then I open a new window and all the toolbars are screwed up. I have to
unlock, rearrange and then lock back. Or just close that window and use the
current open window. But once it's reset to a junk arrangement, I have to
redo it all once I close all the windows. Is this a corrupt file? A setting
I can change? Anything to reset here?

Rob - a different one...

I think that;s the way it's designed. Locking the toolbars should prevent
changes to the content and arrangement of the individual bars, but
displaying or hiding them is an independent function.

Sorry - Rob - I intended this for you.
