IE 7 got downloaded onto my home PC today. I've got Windows XP. On the
browser pages the tool bars are missing, ie. File, Edit, View, Tools etc.
How do I get them back?
TIA

Information about Internet Explorer's new interface has been available
for months. For a good introduction to the new look and feel, read Paul
Thurrott's "Internet Explorer 7 Review"
http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/ie7.asp

Another good introduction comes from Microsoft - "Internet Explorer 7
Technology Overview"
http://tinyurl.com/hqgnw

And, of course, the web is filled with illustrated guides to the new
interface and has been for some time.

Generally speaking, the new interface has met with mixed reviews and has
run up against many people's natural aversion to change. In any case,
you will have no difficulty learning how to use IE 7 if you'll take the
time to find out about it - just like anything else in your life that's
new and different.

There is a new interface - much improved.
On the commandbar, click on the (?) mark
select Internet Explorer tour
select Contents and Index

Thanks for your info. I work 12 hour days. I will not have time at present
to read all those things you advise. Could you pls give me simple
instructions on how I can get those tool bars back.

Tap the Alt button and the menu bar should appear for temporary use.
Right click any button on the Command bar to unlock it and permanently add
the Menu Bar.

I like the first because it saves screen real-estate.

Done and got it. Thanks
There are three toolbars. The top toolbar is the address bar, a long one,
and almost at the end of it is another sort of address bar, with the word
google written on it, although I have the google toolbar. What is that other
bar for? How can I get rid of it?
TIA

Done and got it. Thanks.
This new set up of toolbars ( 3 of them) doesn't do me any good. Can I get
back the older toolbars of IE6?
TIA

The top toolbar is the address bar and next to it is the google search bar
provided by IE7. It's like a question bar that you find in office products. I
do not believe that will go away. Underneath the address bar is the google
search toolbar. You can get rid of that by clicking on an empty space and
unchecking goole. The next bar is a part of IE7, the command bar, and you can
choose which buttons you want or don't want by clicking on an empty space in
that toolbar, click on customize command bar and then add or remove which
buttons you want or don't want.

Hope that helps.

That's MS Mistake #1. Users should have the option of ditching that.

Unfortunately you can't make that go away either. That's MS Mistake #2.

MS could have easily shrunk the size of the area taken up by all this
stuff if they let people customize it to the way they used the
software, but instead they dumped an unfriendly, ugly UI onto us. Shame
on them.

Thanks for your response.

How do I use this google search bar? Is it for asking questions?

There is just one more question I need your help on. I cannot save sites to
Favourites anymore. On the third bar there are two stars to the left,
Favourites and Save to favourites. I tried to save a site and I don't know
where it went. How can I save a site and direct it to the correct folder I
wish to?

And there is the description bar next to the stars that states the name of
the sites. But I always change the given description to my liking for ease
of locating it later. How can I change the description of the site to save
it to my desired folder?
TIA

I really wish I had never installed IE7. I do not see any advantage at all.
Only pain.

Did your permnent solution, and thanks.

Please note that the Google Toolbar is NOT installed by IE7. Either you or
another user installed it separately. It can be uninstalled via Add/Remove
Programs.
