I have a Win2K PC with IE 6. Suddenly about a week ago All pop-ups ended.
This includes necessary ones in my banking program to select dates and even
here in MS message/questions. Is there some way to search for the cause and
then maybe adjust its level of screening.

unless you have service pak two with the mythical ie popup
blocker.. then what is your popup blocker????
scan for spywares spybot safer-networking.org free

and update before scan

and scan for a virus if ya got time to kill.

Have you installed a toolbar from sites like Google (Google toolbar) or !Yahoo (!Yahoo Companion)? They contain a pop-up blocker. You will need to go into their toolbar preference's section, and make the adjustments there.

1. Have you installed a toolbar from sites like, but not necessarily, Google (Google toolbar) or !Yahoo (!Yahoo Companion)? They contain a pop-up blocker. You will need to go into their toolbar preference's section, and make the adjustments there.

2. Have you changed the "HOSTS" file, to help with blocking pop-ups. There is a link regularly posted here in the MS newsgroups created by a MS MVP, that shows how to alter the "HOSTS" file. The change in the "HOSTS" for me, was to intrusive for my needs. And I needed to restore the file to its original state. I know that that I could edit the updated file, but I did not which entry was causing my problems with my banking and personal viewing sites.

3. Also you may want to check if cookies are being blocked. You can check the list in IE6 settings, to see if your bank site(s) are listed there.

Control Panel> Internet Options> Privacy tab> Web Sites section> Edit button> Remove sites that you don't want to be blocked.
